How Shades became part of our life.

Shortly after the loss of my mother in 1997, being so distraught  with grief and pain, my husband wanted to take me  "filly" shopping. We traveled to every hollow and valley from Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama, but to no avail; nothing caught my attention, until I saw "Shades".

He was just weaned, standing tied in the barn with several other weanlings. He was simply gorgeous, so smart looking and alert, perfect conformation, and those big soft eyes looking at me.. Butch, Candace, and our friend Pat kept calling me to come look at this filly,  and this filly. I continued going back talking to Shades, telling him that he should be the filly I am looking for instead of a colt.  I finally asked my husband and my friend Pat to come see this colt AGAIN and they both said, "what a beautiful kid he is, with a head full of sense".  Butch again said, Susan, he is simply a stunning colt,  BUT,  I thought you wanted a "filly".  I continued to talk to myself and Shades continued to look at me with those big gorgeous eyes. I knew that nothing else mattered, but this beautiful buckskin colt.  He was loving, smart, great looking,  and he wanted me and I definitely needed him.  My heart spoke, Shades would be my favorite choice.

From that day on and now as a breeding  stallion,  Shades, has fulfilled everything I dreamed of and more.  Today I can still look into those big beautiful eyes and see that trusting little weanling, that I fell in love with.

April 19, 1997 to January 28, 2003

March of 2002, Shades was offered for sale due to my health. That was another day in my life I felt heart broken. Lisa Teel and Mitzi Butler, of  Harmony Walking Farm, purchased Shades first filly born in 2001.  They adore her "Shades Pushin Candy Kisses", but, they also adored Shades when they saw him for the very first time in 2001.  On March 2002, I emailed to let them know that we had made a difficult decision to sell Shades. Lisa and Mitzi called immediately to set up a day to come visit Shades and ride him.  When Lisa and Mitzi opened the stall, they feel in love.. Then Lisa reached out to him, at that moment a sparkle in both of their eyes set a bond between them with the very first touch. Shades absolutely adored Lisa. I knew then, that Lisa and Mitzi would be his special new Mom's. He was loved as much and more than I could ever dream for him.

On January 28, 2003 our dreams and hearts were shattered, by the horrible news, Shades had colic. While undergoing surgery in Tennessee he crossed over the rainbow bridge.  Our hearts and our new family (Lisa and Mitzi) life has been devastated with grief.  No words can every express how much Shades will be missed for his gentleness, his unique beauty, loving personality, and  his wonderful talents as a natural Tennessee Walking Horse Stallion.

Our deepest sympathy goes to Lisa Teel and Mitzi Butler, of
